I have a new job as a travel agent (really enjoying it, it's going great.) :-) I was informed this week that should I be able to bring a date to the company Christmas party for free, it's going to be my longtime best gay friend. (I've gone to quite a few of his office Christmas parties as his "girlfriend".) I've joked more than once about how there seems to be a disproportionately high number of gay men working in my company (in the industry?), and he figures a company party is a great place for him to meet men.

How it went - the radio date

Like I said in last week's entry, I went into a local radio station to meet a guy who was on the air and revealed he was a 29 year-old virgin (he sounded very nice). We set up a dinner date, which we had just this past Thursday. He was really terrific and I liked him a lot.

(Regardless of my success in getting out of bed, finding an outfit, or actually meeting someone, I'll give you the scoop tonight.)

The Dating Culture Gap

Of all the reasons to be a tourist in New York, I never imagined "to try the dating scene" would be one of them!

I had brunch yesterday with one of my classmates, who is a Torontonian by upbringing but just got back from working a few years in New York. We are both Sex-and-the-City-philes, and eventually our conversation turned to comparing our respective dating experiences.

Does it get harder to meet someone as you get older?

It's been years since we discussed such things, but my mom used to advise me that women wanting to marry should find a husband before they turn 30. After 30, she used to say, you lose your looks. Well, I haven't reached 30 yet so I can't judge the accuracy of that prediction on my own situation, but I've started noticing other things I think make it harder to pair up as you get older (for both males and females).

Why not lead men by the penis?

Hello everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve made a contribution. Karen’s recent article about leading men by the penis has enticed me to write about my personal, and recent, experience in this area.

As I’ve stated in my comment in Karen’s article, I believe there’s a very good reason for many women dressing in the revealing manner in which they do. This doesn’t necessarily mean showing a lot of skin. It means dressing in a way to entice the guys to have their imaginations run wild. It means dressing in a way to show off your best assets. It’s very true for me that I am more turned on by a woman wearing a thong under a see through dress than if she were actually nude.

The Silent Party

Tonight I tried a new concept in meeting people - The Silent Party. The premise behind the Silent Party is that traditional ways of meeting people (e.g. clubs) don't work because it's just too hard to have a conversation. Either the music is too loud or it's too hard to approach someone new to chat. The Silent Party seeks to remedy this by creating a no-talking environment; you can only pass notes to other people present, allowing you to "converse" without having to strain and shout. As well, there's a "musical chairs" set up that has all the men rotate through every table in the room (the women stay seated), so you have the opportunity to "meet" everyone.

I’m going to keep everyone posted on my progress. Hopefully, it’ll be helpful to someone. I’ve officially started working to steal her heart. Oh, by the way, I also had my date today with the friend of one of the girls from my very eventful week. She didn’t do anything for me, and the whole time I was with her, all I could do was think about Sarah (the girl I like). I’m glad I met her though, because meeting her made me realize even more how much I liked Sarah and gave me an extra nudge to overcome the initial inertia of fear.

If you haven’t already heard, I’ve finally found someone I really like. The heart's aflutter and the warm, fuzzy and company are back with a vengeance. Truth be told, I have not felt this way for over six years.

Naturally, the pain of rejection will be proportional to the level of attraction. Had I been younger, less experienced with the matters of the heart and the dating scene, I probably would not be able to handle this situation so calmly.

Here's an update of my dating life.

I don't mean to brag. Okay, maybe I want to brag a little <grin>. In the past week, I've met five girls. I didn't just meet them; they were chasing me. Aside from the five girls, Jessica, drunk, called me (I didn't call her for a while) and then started the sexual innuendos and the heavy flirting. And then there is one more girl that one of the five girls wants to hook me up with, which will probably happen sometime this week.
